TASTER NIGHTS
For dogs that are nervous or new to being away from home we offer a taster night. This will introduce your dog to kennels and will hopefully also make you feel less anxious about leaving your dog for an extended period.
If you decide to book a taster night with us then here is the process:
You bring your pet for drop off as we open at 10.30am or the first available time slot in the morning.
Try not to get nervous as you do not want your pet picking up on any stress and becoming anxious.
If you do feel anxious then as you arrive at the car park press the bell on the entrance wall and wait for our staff to arrive leaving the pet in the car.
As the staff member arrives they will hand you one of our secure rope leads. Please put this onto your dog removing your own collar and lead. Once secure bring your dog out of the car handing them over quickly to the staff member and let them walk away behind the kennel fencing. Do not follow them or shout them back for a last stroke – just let them walk away and do not make a big issue of them leaving.
Do not pick up the pet and not let go as your adrenaline will start to be released and the pet will smell it and become nervous.
Once the pet is safely away from you and cannot make eye contact then walk into reception with any completed paperwork and any food, treats or belongings you have brought with you so we can book your pet in. You should have already provided your vaccination details and microchip number and made sure in advance that your pet is up to date with all its vaccinations or titre test.
Do not wash any belongings prior to bringing them in as we want them to smell of home
If your animal is very nervous do not feed it on that morning as an upset stomach may follow!
Do not bring any toy that can be chewed and become dangerous (ie polystyrene beads or eyes, noses etc that can be prized off or stuffing that can be swallowed).
If you have brought a dog for boarding then it will go straight on a walk. Once the walk has finished we then put the dog into its own kennel where it will have access to the front exercise run and attached sleeping quarters. A water bowl, bed and bedding will already be available for them to use. A toy or piece of clothing you may provide as extras will be put into the kennel after you have left for your holiday and we then go back in with your dog to spend time with them and settle them down.

We then leave your dog alone for a little while so it can take in all the sights, smells and sounds of the kennel environment. We can tell very quickly how your dog is going to settle and then go back in so they can get to know us better and we can commence with the quality cuddles and your dog can start to realise they are in a secure environment where nice people provide for them and keep them safe!
Notes are taken by staff members on how your dog reacts, is sat in the kennel (ie being nosy at the front, barking or quietly taking it all in etc.) We take notes of how they have eaten, taken treats, responded to meeting us all, enjoyed their walks and playtime, toileted and settled for the night.
You then collect your pet after 2.00pm the following day so for one nights payment you get two full days of assessment. On collection we report back to you on how they have been plus a percentage of how we feel your dog has settled and whether or not we feel another taster night is needed (it is extremely rare that another separate taster night is needed although sometimes the owners feel that more visits are needed just to get them used to dropping off and picking up again!)
After your report we will then bring your dog back to you and you will see how happy and relaxed they are with us and then hopefully you will decide to use our services again. Through repetition of the process you will get to know us better and the trust between us all will build to a point where we know your pet inside and out and you will see how much they enjoy their time with us.
